Dennis Sliva

Sergeant, Ventura County Sheriff's Office

I have been with the Sheriff’s Office for 24 years.  After graduating the academy and working in the jail, I served as a patrol officer in the city of Thousand Oaks.  During that time, I became a field training officer and trained several new deputies in patrol and the department’s policies and procedures.  I then was offered a position in the Thousand Oaks Traffic bureau where I worked for the next couple of years as a traffic officer before being promoted to Sr. Deputy.

After serving in the jail as a Sr. Deputy for a year, I rotated back to patrol in Thousand Oaks.  Eventually, I accepted a new assignment in administration completing daily schedules and updating our station’s policy manual.  Two years later, I moved to yet another assignment and became a crime prevention officer. During that role, I spoke at various community outreach meetings advising citizens of what they could do to better protect themselves from being victims of property crimes.

Once my assignment as a crime prevention officer ended, I applied for and accepted a position as a Forgery / Fraud Detective. After investigating financial crimes for several years, I tested for and was promoted to Sergeant where I currently serve as a supervisor back in the Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau.

For the past 20 years, I have held a private pilot rating.  I am married and enjoy spending most of my time with my wife and 7 year old twins.  Four years ago, the Ventura Sheriff’s Office began its UAV program.  I am one of the original members of the UAS team and currently serve as the Chief Pilot.
